Hussein Farhat, MD

Dr. Hussein Z. Farhat is Acting Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital. He received his M.D. degree in 1986 from the University of Liège (ULG) in Belgium. In 1990, he completed his residency training in Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Pathology at ULG as well. He further obtained a certificate as M.D. specialist in Nuclear Medicine in vitro.

Since 2007, Dr. Farhat has been Director of the Blood Bank at LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital. He is a well regarded cytologist and is a known expert in flow cytometric investigations, for the diagnosis and follow-up of malignant hematologic disorders as well as immunodeficiency status. In 2010, he was appointed as the reference hematopathologist for the National Registry of Myelodysplastic Syndromes in Lebanon.

Dr Farhat is an active member of multiple local and international scientific societies. He is also an active researcher, has been involved in several research projects, and has authored a number of scientific publications. His current areas of research include benign and malignant hematological disorders such as leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, anemia and bone marrow failure.
