Optimizing Approach to Pain and Palliation in Children

Welcome Message

Dear colleagues and friends,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our conference and workshops on the Current Approaches to Pain and Palliative Care in Children organized by the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) Lausanne & Children Against Cancer (CHANCE) Association. This conference is endorsed by the Lebanese Society of Anesthesiologists, the Lebanese Pediatric Society and the Lebanese Society for the Study of Pain.

Children frequently report pain at several timepoints in their life. Physical or emotional, pain is a common and distressing symptom associated with various childhood illnesses in general and cancer in particular. Hospitalized children undergo several painful procedures which can often lead to anxiety and fear for the entire family, affecting well-being and compliance with care.

The goal of our conference is to raise awareness among all healthcare providers and stakeholders about the importance of preventing and managing pain in children using the best practices and the most advanced international guidelines.

The program will span over two half days and includes lectures and discussions along with hands on training workshops on palliative care with the team from Switzerland. The target attendance is broad and includes all healthcare workers that care for children, pediatricians, emergency room physicians, anesthesiologists, along with nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, art therapists, healers, psychiatry and psychology experts, palliative care teams, NGOs, fellows, residents, pharmacy interns and medical students.

Pain in children is real and distressing. Let us hear from the distinguished local and international experts in the field how to understand it, control it and relieve it.
