Mission Statement

The mission of the LAU CME-CPD Office is to provide high-quality, evidence-based continuing education that addresses identified professional practice gaps and educational needs and is designed to improve the competence and performance of physicians and other healthcare professionals, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes and safer, higher-quality care.

The program addresses clinical practice, patient safety and quality improvement, communication and professionalism, medical education, leadership, research, and emerging areas relevant to healthcare practice.”

Purpose

The LAU CME–CPD program aims to maintain and enhance clinical competence, promote evidence-based practice, improve patient safety and quality of care, support lifelong learning among physicians and interprofessional healthcare teams, and address evolving national and regional healthcare priorities and system needs.

Content Areas

The LAU CME–CPD program provides evidence-based continuing education across a broad range of clinical, scientific, and professional disciplines, addressing identified educational needs and professional practice gaps.

Educational content includes advances in clinical medicine, patient safety and quality improvement, evidence-based practice, medical education, healthcare simulation, interprofessional collaboration, professionalism, healthcare leadership, and emerging national and regional healthcare priorities.

The program promotes lifelong learning and professional development by providing educational opportunities that enhance healthcare professionals’ knowledge, skills, competence, and clinical performance, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and healthcare outcomes.

Activities Provided

The LAU CME–CPD program offers a variety of educational activities designed to address identified professional practice gaps and educational needs of physicians and other healthcare professionals.

These activities include conferences, courses, regularly scheduled series (RSS) such as grand rounds and journal clubs, workshops, webinars, simulation-based training, and other interactive and interprofessional educational activities.

Educational formats and teaching methodologies are selected according to the identified learning needs and intended educational outcomes. Activities are systematically evaluated to assess their effectiveness in improving learners’ competence, clinical performance, and, where feasible, patient outcomes.

Target Audience

The LAU gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine serves learners across the full medical education continuum, including:

• Medical students in the MD program

• Residents and fellows across accredited training programs

• Practicing physicians and healthcare professionals participating in CME-CPD

• Alumni physicians engaged in lifelong learning locally, regionally, and internationally

• External physicians and healthcare professionals from Lebanon and the broader Middle East participating in LAU-accredited CME activities

Through this continuum, LAU’s medical school contributes to the education, training, and continuing professional development of physicians serving Lebanon, the Middle East, and the international healthcare community.

Expected Results

Through its CME-CPD program, LAU expects to achieve improvements in learners’ competence and performance and, where applicable, contribute to improved patient outcomes. Specifically, educational activities are designed to:

• Enhance competence by strengthening learners’ ability to apply current evidence, knowledge, and professional skills to clinical and professional situations.
• Improve performance by supporting the application of best practices and positive changes in clinical decision-making, professional behaviors, and healthcare delivery.
• Contribute to improved patient outcomes, where applicable, by supporting safer, more effective, evidence-based patient care.

These expected results guide the planning and evaluation of CME-CPD activities and inform the continuous improvement of the overall program.
