M.D. Admissions Requirements

The LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine is committed to admitting students who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong dedication to the values of the medical profession and to our school’s mission.

Our program nurtures and develops these values and the competencies set in our curriculum. Our alumni have had great success in securing residency training positions and other postgraduate pursuits, and now carry on our school’s mission in Lebanon and around the globe.

Requirements

The class starting Med I in August 2025 should expect graduation with an M.D. in 2029.

Admission to the school of medicine normally is based on a composite evaluation of the following criteria: 

Starting with the fall 2020 semester, applicants may not take the Pass/No Pass (P/NP) option for any required premedical Core Courses. However, core courses that were taken with the P/NP option in the spring or summer 2020 term, and elective courses taken with the P/NP option in any term, will be accepted with the application. P/NP courses may not exceed 20% of the total number of credits student’s bachelor’s degree total.

Required Science Core Courses

Lebanese students who have a baccalaureate in either “Economics and Sociology” or “Literature and Humanities” need to take additional credits in Biology (3 Cr), Chemistry (3-4 Cr), Math (3 Cr) and Physics (3-4 Cr).

Application

We encourage applicants to  APPLY ONLINE. To apply for the class entering in fall 2025, please select academic year 2025-2026. Applicants may upload supporting documents and may pay the application fee using the online system or the bank payment as per the instructions in the online application.

Application Deadline

Early Acceptances: To be considered for early acceptances, applications must be received by December 31, 2024. Early acceptances will be issued in March 2025 Students who were not selected for early acceptances but still qualify for an interview, will be considered for regular acceptances. 

Regular Acceptances: Applications must be received by March 31, 2025.

MCAT scores: To be considered for Early admission, applicants must submit their MCAT scores by December 31, 2024 to be considered for Early admission. For Regular admission, applicants must submit their MCAT scores by the end of March 2025(see notice below). Please ensure that you select LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine as the recipient of your MCAT scores.

MCAT Notice: Due to the cancellation of the MCAT in Lebanon by the administering organization in 2024, the admissions committee has waived the MCAT requirement for students from Lebanese universities applying for the 2025-2026 admission cycle. However, for those who have taken the MCAT or plan to take it, a strong performance will be considered an advantage. The MCAT is still required for students from universities outside Lebanon.

Interview

After the School Admissions Committee has reviewed all completed applications and made its recommendations, selected applicants will be invited for an interview. This interview is an important part of the admissions process and allows us to better evaluate the applicant’s qualifications, personal qualities, and commitment to medicine.

Merit Scholarships

Full and partial Merit scholarships are offered to top-ranking accepted students who applied for early acceptance.

Tuition and Financial Aid (Student Loans)

Students enrolled in a given academic year pay the same yearly tuition fee for the four years of medical study. You may check this link for additional information.
