Human Genetics Department
The Department of Human Genetics at the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine is committed to academic excellence, patient centeredness, innovation and research, and respect for ethical values.
The department aims to become a referral center in human genetics in the region through:
- Providing excellent genetic services to patients and their families, including clinical and molecular diagnosis in addition to genetic counseling;
- Promoting genetic education among physicians using specialized pedagogical methodologies and in the community by raising awareness about genetic disorders and consanguinity;
- Leading research activities and contributing to the advancement of the field of human genetics.
Local and Regional Visibility
Our team is regularly invited to attend international conferences as experts in several subspecialty areas. We are also invited as distinguished speakers to many national, regional and international meetings. Additionally we take part in the task force of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS) in Dubai.
Future Plans
Clinical diagnosis and genetic counseling will be established immediately along with DNA and RNA biobanking. Some genetic tests will be performed in-house; others will be performed in collaboration with outside laboratories, pending the complete outfitting of our facility.
