Welcome Message from the Symposium Chairman

Dear colleagues,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the FIRST LAU HEAD AND NECK SYMPOSIUM.

This is an exciting time for the discipline of Head and Neck Oncology in which Multi-disciplinary team collaboration has become the key to improving outcomes. We look forward with enthusiasm to bringing professionals in forums like this one to meet the challenges of managing Head and Neck Oncology patients, in addition to fulfilling the missions of education and research.

The aim of this Symposium is to highlight the latest topics pertaining to diagnosing and managing head and neck tumors, a challenging and fast evolving discipline. The latest techniques in diagnosis and management will be discussed by experts in the field. These include pearls in physical examination, various advanced imaging techniques, pathology and cutting edge current therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation and surgery. Endoscopic skull-base surgery, ablative procedures, in addition to complex reconstructions including micro-vascular free flaps, will be illustrated.

A multidisciplinary approach to the management of head and neck tumors will be emphasized involving health care professionals from a wide range of specialties. Quality-of-life measures as well as hospice care will also be addressed as part of the symposium’s aim to emphasize multi-disciplinary care and treating the many facets of our patients’ disease process. The symposium will be concluded with an interactive round table discussion that includes case presentations with audience participation.

Led by highly specialized and renowned professionals from Lebanon and the United States, this symposium welcomes professionals from across a wide spectrum of healthcare fields including physicians, residents, medical students, nurses, pharmacists, hospital-management associates and quality-improvement personnel. Continuing medical education credits are offered through the Lebanese Order of Physicians.

In addition to learning from one another, we trust that this venue will facilitate exchanges between professionals and among institutions in the greater interest of the patients of our region, our students and residents.  We are confident that new friendships will be forged and built over the next many years.
