We invite you to participate in the “Rare Disease Day 2024” conference that aims to raise awareness and update participants on the latest advances in clinical and molecular diagnosis as well as the latest available treatments. This conference will be held at the LAU Beirut campus, Irwin Hall Auditorium.
In this conference, international and national renowned speakers will collaborate to raise awareness about this condition. Our distinguished guest speakers are:
- Prof. Han Brunner, Head of the Institute of Human Genetics at Nijmegen Radboud University Medical Center, and at Maastricht Medical Center in the Netherlands who will share his expertise about the links between all kinds of congenital diseases and the underlying genes and patterns.
- Dr. Eliane Chouery, Associate Professor from the LAU Department of Human Genetics who will present the latest achievements in molecular diagnosis technologies.
- Dr. Valerie Delague, Director of Research at INSERM Marseille Medical Genetics who will talk about hereditary neuropathies.
- Dr. Mirna Mustapha, Associate Professor and EDI deputy director at the Biosciences department and the Neuroscience Institute of the University of Sheffield in the UK who will discuss the genetics of hearing and balance disorders.
- Dr. Mira Kassouf, Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Gene Regulation MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford who will talk about novel molecular mechanisms in human genetic disease.
- Dr. Cybel Mehawej, Assistant Professor from the LAU Department of Human Genetics who will present the latest molecular diagnosis technologies and treatments.
- Dr. Mazen Kurban, Research Director of the Department of Dermatology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center who will talk about a rare genetic disorder characterized by fragile skin that blisters and forms painful sores.
- Dr. Roula Farah, from the LAU Department of Pediatrics who will present a talk about cancer in children and adolescents.
- Dr. Jose-Noel Ibrahim, from the LAU School of Arts and Sciences who will discuss an autoinflammatory disease affecting people originating from the Mediterranean sea.
- Dr. Andoni Urtizberea, from the Institute de Myologie of Paris who will discuss therapeutic advances in neuromuscular disorders
The target audience for this activity include all healthcare professionals, faculty, medical students, residents and staff. The invitation will also be extended to the Lebanese Order of Nursing, Lebanese Order of Pharmacy and Lebanese Order of Physicians.
