Dr. Abdallah Slim graduated from the University of Milano degli Studi School of Medicine in Italy in 1994. He then enrolled in the General and Vascular, Emergency and Laparoscopic Surgery training program at the Department of General Surgery and Abdominal Organ Transplantation-Ospedale Niguarda Ca’Granda, Milan as well as in the General and Emergency Surgery Department at the University of Milan. He completed additional specialty training in hepatobiliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplantation at Hôpital Paul Brousse de Villejuif in Paris in 1997. In addition, Dr. Slim received certifications in Laparoscopic Surgery, Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal and Solid Organ Surgery, and Advanced Robotic Surgery/ Upper GI-HPB Surgery. Dr. Slim is certified by the European Board of Surgery FEBS (Fellow of the European Board of Surgery) for general and abdominal organ transplantation — liver, pancreas and kidney.
After his training, Dr. Slim joined Ospedale Niguarda Ca’ Granda-Milan, where he served as attending surgeon on the Head Harvesting Team - Liver Pancreas and Kidney as a consultant surgeon. In 2001, he established a service of advanced laparoscopic surgery in the Department of General Surgery and Abdominal Transplantation at Niguarda Hospital in Milan. He was later appointed Vice Director of the Division of General, HPB Surgery and Abdominal Organ Transplantation, and, at the same time, as Chief of the Liver-Pancreas-Kidney Transplantation Program. In 2011, Dr. Slim founded the Robotic Surgery and Split-Liver Adult-to-Pediatric and Adult-to-Adult Liver Transplant Program at Niguarda Hospital as well as the Living Donor Liver Transplant Program. The following year, Dr. Slim joined Vimercate Hospital in Italy, where he served as Director of General Surgical Oncology, HPB and Mini-Invasive Surgery; and in 2013 he was named Chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Slim maintained his appointments at Vimercate Hospital until his recruitment by the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine.
Dr. Slim is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, and is an active member of many national and international professional societies. He is the author of more than 45 peer-reviewed publications.
