Early “ADRIAN” Coolidge Tube

This tube, 16” (40 cm) long, air-cooled and of the line-focus design, probably dates back to the thirties.

Of somewhat peculiar shape is the target, a thick solid tungsten disc about one inch (2,5 cm) in diameter, at about a 25 degree angle, and asymmetrically fixed to an angled holding arm.

This tube  was specifically designed for the “Adrian shoe fitting machine” introduced in the Twenties, and abandoned, totally banned, in the sixties because of serious radiation hazard both to the operator and to the clients using it, mainly children.

Later makes of the Adrian machine were fitted with a more compact oil-immersed tube, the “Adrian Special”, the use of which remained equally risky.
