Philips Diffraction Tube

Ref. E6

This is a water-cooled grounded anode, with copper target and maximum output of 50 kV, 1500 Watts. It has a target angle of six degrees, a focal spot 1 x 1 mm and four Beryllium windows.

The tube undated, but is was made in Holland by Philips (who have abandoned several decades ago the manufacture of such tubes, which was taken over by “Panalytical”).

The anode is cooled by water circulating through the base of the tube, the water inlet being in one of the corners, and  the outlet in the diagonally opposite one (see pictures).

Targets in Diffraction X-ray tubes can be made of different metals, including Tungsten, Molybdenum, Chrome, Cobalt, Iron and Copper. Copper is however the most frequently used.
