General Electric Tube-Head

Ref. P3

The insert in this tube-head is a fixed anode oil-immersed X-ray tube, with focal spots measuring respectively 2 and 4.5 square millimeters. The tube-head could be tilted up to 25 degrees either to the head side or to the feet side of the X-ray table. The X-ray tube was used as self rectified and was fed by high tension cables from an oil filled transformer tank, without any rectifier valves (kenotrons) in the high tension circuit. This item was removed from an X-ray set-up dating to the 1950’s.

When received the tube was equipped with a cylindrical 30cms long removable localizer. No aluminum filtration is seen on the X-ray window.

Note the high and wide black cylindrical protrusion seen on the tube-head in the vicinity of the input cable connections. It contains oil expansion bellows similar to the picture (lowest right), which protect the unit when the oil expands with heat.

This item was gracefully offered to this collection by the late Dr. Sebouh Sisserian.
