About

Elias Hanna, MD

Clinical Professor, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology
Department of Internal Medicine
Division of Cardiology

Dr. Elias Hanna obtained his MD degree from USJ medical school in 2002 and graduated first in his class. He then did residency and fellowships in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology in the USA, where he started a prolific writing career and published his first book in 2009 during cardiology fellowship. Afterward, he worked for ~15 years (2010-2014) at several academic institutions in the US (LSU and University of Iowa) where he played key roles in the interventional cardiology programs and in fellows’ educations. He single-handedly wrote 4 textbooks, including a widely used, comprehensive cardiology textbook which is now in its 2nd edition: Practical Cardiovascular Medicine (~1000 pages). He also developed an extensive experience working in catheterization laboratories and performing complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs), including complex PCIs supported with ventricular assist devices, left main and coronary bifurcations PCIs, interventions in complex patients turned down from cardiac surgery, and atherectomy. He also extensively performed complex peripheral vascular interventions for critical limb ischemia/gangrene and pioneered some of the transradial and tibial peripheral techniques. He is an expert in cardiovascular hemodynamics; hence his 2nd book is a hemodynamic textbook. He is a big educator and promoter of safe and effective performance of complex coronary procedures, as well as safe and effective clinical cardiology with appropriate use and interpretation of tests. Beside his technical expertise in interventional cardiology, he is best known for his extensive knowledge, diagnostic skills, and ability to solve complex clinical cases, encompassing all fields of cardiology. In addition to writing extensive books and many research manuscripts, he is engaged in online education and has a widely used YouTube channel for advanced cardiology with over 110 didactic cardiology lectures, particularly focused on advanced interventional techniques, cardiac catheterization, cardiovascular hemodynamics, and management of myocardial infarction and shock. Professional Interests hemodynamics (invasive and non-invasive), introducing novel and safe procedural techniques, and education of trainees and students of all levels. But what distinguishes him the most is his extensive encyclopedic knowledge, clinical acumen, and diagnostic skills in complex, difficult-to-solve clinical cases.
