MD Program

Accreditation

The LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine views the process of accreditation as an engine for the quality improvement and sustainability of its program. The school initiated the process of accreditation according to standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), through its regional representative, the Turkish Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD).

In fall 2021, the school received a provisional accreditation for its MD program from TEPDAD, following submission of a self-evaluation report in 2019 and a virtual site visit by the accrediting team. It will retain this status for two years provided a face-to-face site visit by TEPDAD is carried out during that period. The provisional accreditation allows LAU MD students and graduates to apply for an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, and is equivalent to a full accreditation in terms of opportunities provided. TEPDAD introduced the provisional status due to COVID-19 health restrictions, and in the absence of on-site visits required to determine full status.

Following its accreditation, the school received special notice of good practice in three areas of the WFME’s Basic Medical Education Standards: its scientific method, educational resources, and medical research and scholarship.
