Crookes Deflection Effect Tube

This tube is intended to demonstrate the deflection by a magnet of a narrow beam of cathode rays inside a Crookes tube. It is a close replica of the tube advertised in the 1913 catalog of Schall & Son, London, but where the mica plate with a slit is replaced by an aluminium plate.

This tube, 30 cm long, and dating probably to the second half of the 20th century bears no maker’s name. But similar tubes were advertised as being made by the Rudolf Pressler Company (Cursdorf, Germany) which had merged with VEB NARVA in 1960.

Such tubes were recommended for use with a direct current of about 10 k.V. and 0.5 m.A.
