Message from the Associate Dean for Medical Education

Medical education has been in the midst of major transformations in recent years to adapt to the rapidly changing demands from the profession. Advances in technology, the fast pace of discoveries, the changing generation of students and patients, and the evolving economic and social systems will require from medical schools adaptive changes to train the new generation of physicians and scientists. We will partner together to equip you with the readiness to enter the practice field of medicine as knowledgeable, compassionate, and ethical health care professionals.

Throughout your medical studies, you will not only learn in the classroom or experience usual patient encounters in classical rotations, but much more importantly, you will learn to appreciate values, understand patient’s rights, accept differences, coordinate healthcare delivery, work efficiently in a team, interpret critically medical information, manage patients’ conditions based on practice guidelines, and develop a community-based approach to promote health and wellness as part of many other enriching experiences.

Our curriculum values knowledge, skills and attitudes equally. We will use new educational modalities that include simulation, small-group teaching, peer-assisted learning, flipped classroom education, computer and internet-assisted learning, in addition to learning in the workplace and role modeling to help you acquire the skills to think critically and become independent life-long learners.

Our main teaching hospital, the Lebanese American University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital, and our affiliated healthcare facilities are real partners in the academic enterprise. Securing a safe environment conducive to learning is in the heart of their academic mission. We hope you will enjoy and benefit from each and every moment of your educational experience, and you will build for future milestones as LAU graduates.
