Residency and Fellowship Programs

LAU GME offers 17 residency programs including both categorical and preliminary tracks, and seven fellowship programs.

Available Positions

Residency positions available for Academic Year 2025-2026 are shown below:

3. Diagnostic Imaging categorical track (first year spent as rotating PGYI in the departments of Internal Medicine and Surgery)

8. Neurology categorical (with first year spent as rotating PGYI in the department of Internal Medicine)

11. Ophthalmology categorical (with first year spent as Rotating PGYI in the departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery and Pediatrics)
12. Orthopedics categorical (with first year spent as rotating PGYI in Surgery)
13. Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (categorical track)*
14. Pathology (categorical track) *
15. Pediatrics (categorical track) *
16. Psychiatry (categorical track-first year spent rotating PGYI in Internal Medicine)
17. Urology categorical (with first year spent as rotating PGYI in the Surgery department)

*Categorical track leads to certification in the chosen specialty where the length of training depends on the specialty.

*Preliminary track and rotating year are a one-year track that doesn’t lead to certification in the specialty.

Fellowship (post-residency) positions are available in the following specialty areas:

5. Infectious Diseases
6. Nephrology
7. Pulmonary & Critical Care

Application Process

For residency and fellowship programs beginning in AY 2025-2026, the application period is November 15, 2024 through January 31, 2025.

GME applications (residency and fellowship) are posted on the MyEvaluations platform. Interested candidates should send an email to the GME Office  (gme@lau.edu.lb) requesting to apply for LAU GME programs, mentioning in the email the date of birth (dd/mm/yy) and the fathers’ name.  Candidates will receive the credentials to access the platform and an email from the platform within 4-5 working days.

Note that the GME office will be CLOSED from December 24, 2024 - January 6, 2025 (inclusive) for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday. We apologize for not being able to cater to your needs and requests during this period.

All submitted documents should be in English or a certified English translation of the original non-English document.

Eligibility, Requirements & Qualifying Examinations

Eligibility

All applicants to the GME programs should hold a Medical Diploma granted by an institution that is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and acknowledged by the Lebanese Ministry of Higher Education.

Required Documents

• GME online application posted on the MyEvaluations platform. To access the online platform, please email the GME office at gme@lau.edu.lb to obtain the credentials required for access.
• Photocopy of the applicant’s valid identity card or passport.
• One recent passport-size color photographs of the applicant.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV) prepared within three months of the application.
• Personal statement describing the applicant’s interest in the chosen specialty. A separate personal statement should be written for each choice you apply to.
• Certified copy of the medical degree (MD) if not applicable, a Dean’s Letter from the medical school in which the applicant is/was enrolled.
• Certified copy of the medical school transcript of record.
• A minimum of three letters of recommendation (LoR) provided by faculty members who had academic contact with the applicant. The LoR should include information about the applicant’s knowledge, clinical skills, professionalism, inter-professional and communication skills. 

Note: When uploading the above documents on the MyEvaluations platform, you must rename the file you upload with the following format: “First Name, Family Name- name of the required document”

The GME application fee:   

1. To apply for only one choice: 75 USD
2. For every additional choice (total of three): 25 USD   - Note: Lower chance of interviews might be granted to third choice applicants depending on program’s needs. 
3. The fees should be paid either through:

• bank transfer  (including the total amount and the commission of the bank). For further questions please reach out to the LAU business office at extension: 2294.
  • DONOT FORGET to mention at the Bank, when making the money transfer, to include on the invoice your name/GME applicant together with your ID number.

OR

• Alternatively, you may pay in person at the Main Cashier, ground floor, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital; Please take a copy of the first page of your application (to show the number of choices), and provide your full name and LAU I.D. number received via email from the GME office.

Qualifying Examinations

All applicants must submit score reports of the following:

• USMLE Step 1 Basic Science, or its equivalent, the International Foundations of Medicine Clinical Basic Science Examination (IFOM BSE).
• USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge, or its equivalent, the International Foundations of Medicine Clinical Science Examination (IFOM CSE).

Note:

1. The IFOM CSE/USMLE Step 2 scores will be considered as part of the applicant’s “Academic Performance”. The scores’ relative weight in the evaluation of the applicant may vary among specialty programs.
2. Validity of IFOM exams is 4 years

Required Proof of Proficiency in English

For graduates of non-American medical schools, score report of performance on one of the following English Language Proficiency examinations is requested. 

Qualifying examinations and minimum qualifying scores include any of the following:

Applicants whose scores on the English tests fall below the scores mentioned above will not be accepted.

Candidates interested in taking the EEE should check the website https://www.lau.edu.lb/apply/exams/  or contact the testing center for the available EEE dates.

The registration for the EEE is online.

Within 5-15 working days from the time you submit your online GME application on the My Evaluation platform along with the receipt of the application fee, you will receive an email from the admission office with credentials to LAU portal to register for the EEE.

NOTE: Those who apply for residency or fellowship positions beyond mid-December 2024 should sit for other English tests accepted by LAU rather than the LAU EEE.

Fellowship Application Requirements

Fellowship application requirements are identical to the residency application requirements delineated above
