In Memoriam: Dr. Georges Abi Raad

The LAU community mourns the loss of Dr. Georges Abi Raad, clinical faculty at the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, who passed away on October 2, 2025.

A pioneering orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Abi Raad has since 1985 dedicated four decades to advancing orthopedic care at the LAU Medical Center–Rizk Hospital. A trailblazer in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery in Lebanon, he transformed countless lives with his skill, compassion, and innovation.

His exceptional contributions to the field earned him international recognition, including his most recent election as a Full Member of the prestigious Académie Nationale de Chirurgie in Paris—an honor reserved for surgeons of extraordinary accomplishment.

Dr. Abi Raad will be remembered not only for his clinical excellence and groundbreaking achievements in orthopedic surgery but also for his kindness and dedication to mentoring future generations of physicians.

The LAU family extends its deepest condolences to Dr. Abi Raad’s beloved wife, Dr. Vanda Abi Raad, associate dean for faculty affairs and development at the school, and to his entire family, colleagues, and patients. His profound impact on the medical community will remain a lasting legacy and an inspiration to all.
