Stroke Pathway

Date November 12, 2025
Presenter Dr. Samar Abbas
Moderator Dr. Georges Hanna

Objectives

Pathophysiology and Classification: Understand the underlying mechanisms of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes and classify stroke types based on etiology (e.g., thrombotic, embolic, or hemorrhagic).

Recognition and Initial Assessment: Develop skills to recognize early signs and symptoms of stroke, use standardized tools such as the FAST or NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and prioritize rapid assessment in the acute setting.

Acute Management and Intervention: Implement evidence-based protocols for acute stroke management, including the use of thrombolytic therapy, endovascular interventions, and blood pressure control, guided by stroke pathway timelines.

Post-Stroke Care and Secondary Prevention: Formulate strategies for post-stroke care, including rehabilitation planning, prevention of recurrence through lifestyle modification, antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy, and management of underlying conditions such as atrial fibrillation or hypertension.
